Team GTI Drivers Past and Present Alphabetical |
Behind-the-Wheel
Talent Team GTI thanks a growing line-up of smart endurance drivers for its success |
Greg Amy |
Greg was a stalwart Team GTI driver from 2004-2006, helping to achieve two class wins. Greg capped a successful 2006 season (North Atlantic and Northeast Regional titles) with an ITA win at the American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) at Road Atlanta, in his Kakashi Racing Nissan. Kirk and his codrivers were very pleased that Greg was able to return to help the team to victory in the 2007 VIR 13 Hours, and came within 45 seconds of a class win in 2008. Greg returned for the VIR 13 in 2009, partnered Kirk Knestis at the ARRC 3-hour enduro in November that same year, and co-drove Tyler Raatz's ITA Miata at the 2010 VIR 13. |
Matt
Brown 2007 Summit Point 12 2007 VIR 13 |
Matt joined Team GTI for 2007, coming off of a season racing Spec Racer Fords under the MBRacing banner. He brought with him 10 years of experience racing motorcycles, karts, and a variety of cars, and was a great addition for the Summit Point 12 hours and VIR 13-hour classic in 2007. |
Scott Giles |
Scott was on the Team GTI enduro debut team that achieved class victory in the 2004 VIR 13 hours. Since that race, he has achieved success at the SCCA American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) in ITC, including an enduro race win in 2004. |
Matt
Graham 2005 VIR ECR 2007 Longest Day 24 |
Matt first ran with Team GTI in an Enduro Championship Race (ECR) event at VIR in 2005, where he and car owner Kirk Knestis achieved a second-in-class finish. He has since returned to his native Canada but rejoined the team in 2007 to win their class in the revived Longest Day round-the-clock enduro at the Nelson Ledges Road Course in Ohio. |
Bowie
Gray 2007 Longest Day 24 2007 ARRC Sprint |
Bowie was a great addition to the Team GTI driver line-up for the team's banner 2007 season. He has collected two SARRC class championships and multiple podium finishes in key IT races in the Southeast, including the American Road Race of Champions enduro and Pro IT (2005). Bowie helped Team GTI to a class win at the Longest Day 24 and added to his trophy shelf by winning the ITB sprint race at the 2007 ARRC. |
Jon
Kofod 2007 Summit Point 12 2008 Summit Point 12 |
Jon came to Team GTI in 2007 with a full racing portfolio, including two NASA East Coast Honda Challenge H4 season titles for Flatout Racing, and an ITA class win in the 2005 12 Hours at the Point. Jon joined the team for the 2007 edition of that event and returned there with Team GTI in 2008. |
Kirk Knestis |
Kirk, along with his wife Laurene Johnson, is co-owner of Team GTI, run through an ongoing collaboration with Cameron Conover, now with RennGruppe Motorsports. Kirk has been road racing since 1986 and specializes in endurance events, having scored his first club enduro class win more than 20 years ago.
Notes |
Jeff Lawton |
Jeff joined the team for three events, contributing to a class win at the Summit Point 12 hours in 2005 and second-place finishes in the rough-and-tumble 2006 Summit and VIR enduros. |
Chris Perera |
Team
GTI was pleased to welcome 2007 MARRS ITA championship runner-up and MARRS
Rookie of the Year Chris Perera for the 2008 Summit 12 hours. Chris is
a veteran of 15 years of racing in a wide range of disciplines - from
skiing, to jet skis, to motocross, to Solo II competition. |
Phil Phillips 2005 Summit Point 12 2006 Summit Point 12 2006 VIR 13 2007 Summit Point 12 2007 VIR 13 2008 Summit Point 12 2008 VIR 13 |
Phil has for a long time been a key player with Team GTI, returning for a fourth season in the Golf in 2008, with NASA Honda Challenge H3 and multiple SCCA Regional championships in hand. As owner of PhilsTireService.com, he also plays a key technical role for the team. Phil provides trackside tire service across the northeast and mid-Atlantic states. Phil was back for the Summit Point 12 hours and the VIR 13 in 2008. |
Bob
Rothstein 2009 VIR 13 |
Bob came to Team GTI from the Troxell brothers' MkII Golf that snatched victory from the team at the 2008 VIR 13 hours by less than 45 seconds. Unfortunately, mechanical problems let the team down at the 2009 Charge of the Headlight Brigade, even if Bob's performance did not. |
Anthony
Ruddy 2009 ARRC Sprint |
NE Region ITA stalwart Anthony Ruddy was a guest driver for the 2009 American Road Race of Champions at Road Atlanta. |
Fred
Snow 2007 Longest Day 24 |
Fred has multiple years of Regional SCCA Production category experience, and has most recently partnered with Bowie Gray for Southeast ECR championship podiums. Fred also brought to the team valuable technical expertise with specialty endurance racing headlight systems from Hella Inc., the North American aftermarket subsidiary of this world-leading automotive lighting and electronics supplier. In the driver's seat, Fred was a key contributor to Team GTI's debut class win at the 2007 Longest Day 24. |
Evan Webb |
Evan helped Team GTI achieve class victory in its first endurance event at VIR in 2004. |
